Laboratory method is a crucial component of contemporary epidemiology, as a branch of evidentiary medicine. The fundamental importance of the laboratory for one major field of medicine in particular—infectious disease—is well recognized. Furthermore, the events of 2020-2021 have underscored the need for an easily mobilized capability to develop laboratory diagnostic methods for public heath emergencies like the COVID-19 pandemic.
DiaPrep, together with its DIA Technical Group partners, has made major to the arsenal of tools for combatting COVID-19 by:
Developing methods for detecting IgG, IgM, and IgA class antibodies to the SARS-CoV-2 virus;
Designing a SARS-CoV-2 antigen test that that could prove to as important as PCR in identifying infected persons;
Developing a method for distinguishing between the immune response to COVID-19 itself versus vaccination against the disease. This ability is critical for determining the effectiveness of vaccination programs;
Evaluating the reliability of existing tests.
